In response to Dr. Cordero's post below. He came to assess an abscess in my breast. As a nursing mommy this is not something that gone on for 4 weeks, but rather 24-48 hours. He came in shortly after I had hooked up to the pump on the side that was not having issues so I could send milk home to the baby. He demanded I stop, as a medical professional he should know it doesn't really work that way. I explained that I couldn't just "stop" but since I was only attached on on side he was fully able to examine the other side. His 40 minute exam was less than 20. My comments about his accent was not that he did not speak english, but rather when he was upset with why I was asking questions I started that he was speaking very fast with an accent and I was asking questions to try and understand. I also attempted to explain that due to past experiences of doctors not always communicating I have been in situations where medications have clashed and wanted to make sure what and why he was adding wouldn't have the same issue. As a patient I am my only adovacate. My husband did not get involved until Dr. Cordero continued to shout at me and refuse to answer questions. His interaction with my husband was when my husband asked why he wouldn't answer my questions. The nurse only left to get the charge nurse when I requested due to how I was being treated. I should also add the other infectious disease doctor that was brought in clearly explained everything in a civil manner, answering my questions and he also had an accent, but unlike Dr. Cordero, he did not have a chip on his shoulder when I asked for clarification. By the way, my name is not Linda and I am not the one who resorted to name calling. Making racists remarks is a strong accusation, especially since I never once made it about race, I brought up the fact that I asked you to clarify and repeat so I could understand your plan of care. "I'm asking questions so I can understand because you are talking fast and have an accent," was my response when you shouted "Why are you arguing with me?" Asking for clarification is not being a "bigot" or hateful. Dr. Cordero was called in as a consult for my care at the hospital. When he finally came around he seemed annoyed to even be called in then continued to get upset because I had questions. He never answered my question, but rather would repeat himself. Once he started yelling at me about not following his plan (a plan I was trying to understand before agreeing to) I called for a nurse. He refused to leave a card and ultimately stormed out of the room. Everyone in the room had a degree and letters after their name, however, Dr. Cordero seemed to think everyone should bow to him. His communication with patients is extremely poor. His overall attitude was negative and off putting. I can't believe the hospital continues to bring him in for consultation. I certainly do not wish that experience on anyone.
